Noe Martinez, 19, of Palmdale, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. after students reported to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials that Martinez said he planned to “bring a gun to school and hurt some one,” according to Sheriff’s Station Lt. Rob Hahnlein.

COC officials released a statement Tuesday evening about the incident to students and staff, which was obtained by KHTS AM-1220.

“The suspect had told two other students he planned to shoot specific students and then kill himself,” according to a statement attributed to COC spokesman Eric Harnish. “The two students reported the threats to an instructor, who then called Campus Safety. Officers from Campus Safety coordinated with deputies from the SCV Sheriff’s Station, who went to the suspect’s class and escorted him from the room. After taking him into custody, the deputies searched his backpack and vehicle, but did not find any guns.”

Deputies confirmed the investigation resulted in Martinez being charged for making a criminal threat; however, no gun was found on campus.

No student was injured in the incident.

The suspect remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail, with a court appearance scheduled for Thursday, per Sheriff’s Department records.

If he is released on bail, he will not be permitted to return to campus, pending the outcome of disciplinary due process.

College officials used the incident as an opportunity to keep campus safety high on students’ priority list.

“This situation serves as a reminder of the role we all play in helping keep our college safe. If you see, or hear, something suspicious or alarming, you need to say something,” the statement added. “You can contact Campus Safety by calling ext. 3229 at the Valencia Campus, or by dialing ext. 3977 at Canyon Country. Or, you can use the campus emergency line – dial 7 from any campus phone at Valencia, or 77 at Canyon Country.”
