Deputies are investigating after two suspects in a stolen vehicle allegedly opened fire following a crash in Newhall Wednesday evening.

Around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a traffic collision and shots fired call on Walnut Street near 15th Street in Newhall, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The victim stated he was driving on Walnut Street when a sedan swerved into his lane, causing a collision,” Miller said. “Shortly after the impact, the victim reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot.”

Two men were seen fleeing the scene of the crash, according to Miller.

Deputies later determined the vehicle the two men were in was reported stolen.

A single shell casing was also recovered at the scene.

As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests have been made and the incident remains under active investigation.
