A suspect who was wanted for speeding was arrested after leading the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on a pursuit over the weekend.
Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, a CHP Newhall Area unit made an enforcement stop on a white Toyota Prius for speeding on the southbound 14 Freeway near Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“The Prius driver initially yielded to the right shoulder, but as our officer approached the Prius, the driver took off (southbound) on SR-14 and a pursuit ensued,” Burgos-Lopez said.
The chase exited the 14 Freeway and headed west on Golden Valley Road before turning onto Center Point Parkway.
The driver drove through several vacant commercial parking lots, according to Burgos-Lopez.
“The driver eventually made his way to Center Point Parkway and Golden Triangle Road where the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot across the railroad tracks and across Soledad Canyon Road,” Burgos-Lopez said. “Our officer was able to catch up with the driver on foot, at which point a use of force occurred and the officer was able to take the suspect… into custody with no further incident.”
Minor Mejia, 42, from Palmdale, was arrested for felony evading, according to officials.
Mejia was transported by CHP to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and ultimately booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, according to Burgos-Lopez.
