A drunk driver suffered major injuries and was arrested after they caused a wrong-way crash on the 5 Freeway north of Castaic Friday morning.

 Around 4:20 a.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a crash after a report of a wrong way driver, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, on the 5 Freeway near Vista Del Lago, said officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office. 

“Multiple CHP Newhall Area units responded and located the crash northbound I-5 north of the Islands,” Greengard said.

 Upon arrival, it was determined to be a two-vehicle crash with major injuries sustained to the wrong way driver, according to officials.

 “There were no injuries to the second involved driver of a semi-truck,” Greengard said.

 A majority of the northbound 5 Freeway was closed while crews cleared the wreckage.

The wrong way driver was arrested for DUI. The name of the suspect is unavailabel to the media as of Friday morning.
