The two suspects who led California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on high-speed pursuits Monday allegedly stole the GMC trucks from Nevada.
Around 12:30 p.m. Monday, officers with the CHP attempted to make a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle near the 5 Freeway and Highway 126 in Valencia, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office in a previous KHTS article.
The suspect, Jose Barrera Gonzalez, 20, from Los Angeles, fled and a pursuit was initiated.
Moments later, other CHP officers located a second stolen vehicle near the southbound 5 Freeway and Valencia Boulevard.
The suspect, Ronald Escobar Petz, 24, whose birthday was the day of the pursuit, failed to yield to law enforcement, and a second pursuit was initiated.
Petz went south on the 5 Freeway, before transitioning to the 170 and exited on Sherman Way.
He attempted to escape on foot before being arrested near Saticoy and Lankershim Boulevard.
Meanwhile, Barerra Gonzalez continued south on the 5 Freeway before transitioning to State Route 2, and later returned to the southbound 5 Freeway.
The Barrera Gonzalez eventually transitioned to the 110 Freeway before exiting onto surface streets.
After losing the left rear tire, the Barrera Gonzalez abandoned the vehicle near Halldale Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, where he was quickly captured by CHP officers.
At least one CHP officer collided with a vehicle in the beginning of the pursuit.
Once the two suspects were in custody, CHP learned that the two men – who share the same address in Los Angeles – both allegedly stole GMC trucks from a dealership in Carson City County, Nevada.
Drugs were found in one of the vehicles, however, it was unclear which suspect was concluded to be in possession.
