A Valencia man was arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly driving under the influence of marijuana with a minor as his passenger, causing several hit-and-run crashes in Newhall, officials said.
Around 8 p.m., deputies arrested 18-year-old Vladimar Victoria, of Valencia, on DUI and child endangerment charges after he was involved in the hit-and-run collisions, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The suspect was additionally charged with felony child endangerment charges, as there was a minor passenger in his vehicle,” Miller said.
The effects of being high on marijuana are equally as dangerous as being under the influence of alcohol when operating a vehicle, according to Sheriff’s officials
“With marijuana, there can be more mental than physical impairment, thus creating the distortion that makes people think they are driving slower when they are driving fast,” Miller said.
Victoria was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where bail was set at $110,000, according to arrest records.
