Expired Registration Leads To Discovery Of Stolen Merchandise

A man on active felony probation for grand theft was arrested Sunday after the expired registration on his vehicle led deputies to find stolen merchandise in his possession.

Around 8 p.m. Sunday, deputies were patrolling near Sand and Soledad Canyon roads when they spotted a vehicle with the registration expired in May 2023, said Deputy Kabrina Borbon, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle to warn/cite the driver,” Borbon said.

During the investigation, the deputies learned the suspect was on active felony probation for grand theft, according to officials.

“The suspect was also in possession of drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and stolen merchandise with security tags,” Borbon said.

Ashot Atajanyan, 49, a transient of Hollywood, was arrested for felony burglary among other charges, according to officials.

Atajanyan was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, Borbon added

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
