Florida Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Lebec

Officials with Cal/OSHA have launched an investigation after a man died in an accident at a cement plant in Lebec earlier this month.

On Jan. 6, Oswaldo Alejandro Rodas Hernandez, 50, from Jacksonville Florida, died in a work related accident at the National Cement Plant in the 33000 block of Highway 138 in Lebec, according to officials with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

He was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on scene, according to officials.

Hernandez was an employee of MZP Kiln Services, said Denisse Gómez, a spokesperson for the State of California Department of Industrial Relations.

“Preliminary information indicates the employee was fatally injured while attempting to remove a slide gate motor,” Gómez said. “Cal/OSHA investigations focus on whether workplace safety laws and/or regulations were followed, and the division has up to six months to issue citations if violations are identified.”

This incident remains under active investigation.

“We are aware of the incident involving a third-party contractor at our cement plant on January 6. Our thoughts are with those impacted. We are cooperating fully with authorities and regulatory agencies, and we have no further comment at this time,” officials with the National Cement Plant said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
