Four Santa Clarita residents were arrested on felony assault charges Sunday after allegedly getting into a fight when three of them assaulted a homeowner after being locked in a community pool complex.
Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies received reports of a possible assault with a deadly weapon call on Cunningham Drive in Saugus, said Sgt. Brian Shreves with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Three of them were at a community pool drinking,” Shreves said.
When the three were leaving the pool, two of the individuals walked one of their “drunk friends” to the vehicle, according to Shreves.
The gate remained partially opened, allowing two people to go back into the pool area to retrieve the rest of their items, according to officials.
However, when the two individuals were inside the pool area, the gate shut and locked.
At which point, they realized they left the key to the gate in the car with their “drunk friend,” Shreves said.
The two parties reportedly began yelling for one of the surrounding homeowners to come let them out, according to Shreves.
A nearby resident apparently came outside to help the two’s wants and wishes.
“The suspects didn’t think he was helping fast enough,” and began to harass the individual, Shreves said.
After the two started to harass the person who was trying to help, he decided to not assist them and walked away.
“At that point, the two suspects climbed over the fence,” Shreves said. “The two of them charged him and he ran into the house and locked his door.”
The suspects allegedly began pounding on the door of the house of the man who was originally trying to help them get out of the pool area, according to Shreves.
The homeowner, Nader Adawiya, came back to the door with a bat in hand, according to Shreves.
At that point, the two suspects, now joined up with the third friend who was in the car, all got into a physical fight with Adawiya, Shreves said.
“It is unclear if anyone was hit by the bat or if it was all fistfight,” Shreves said.
All four individuals, Andrea Gregory, 23, from Valencia, Jerry Beran, 35, from Newhall, Giovanni Sorto, 22, from Saugus and Adawiya, 40, from Saugus were all arrested on assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm charges, Shreves added.
This case remains under active investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives.
All four were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail where they were booked.

Stupid kids
Where do you get kids? All of these were adults.
I was outraged when I read that the homeowner was arrested! Is this the society we want to live in? Can’t he protect himself from being assaulted? The drunk pool goers followed HIM home, he had every right to protect himself. I don’t own a bat but I’m a staunch supporter of my 2nd Amendment rights and the Castle Doctrine, (198.5 P.C.) which allows a person to protect himself from intruders. What do you think the drunk pool goers were going to do pounding on his door, thank him? He was “the Good Samaritan” until he was being verbally assaulted. To bad the fence wasn’t taller.
And, California has a “Stand your ground” law while protecting your home from intruders. You have no obligation to retreat.
To the previous writers: we don’t know the whole story, but there was nothing in it saying that the drunkards tried to break in. It did say the homeowner opened the door with a bat. There’s a big difference between using your fists and using a bat. No, he can’t hit with a bar unless he’s in fear of great bodily injury. It appears that the best response would have been to keep the door shut and call the Sheriff. In any case, let the investigation play out..
So the fact that he has sleeping inside his house isn’t enough to defend himself? You don’t think he feared his life when there drunkards are banging on his door and he’s got children in his home to protect?
You don’t think that the fact that he has sleeping children in the house is enough for him to fear his life when drunken losers are banging at his door? What would a reasonable human and parent do? They would protect themselves and their family. Any parent would have done the same thing as Adawiya.
Good for you to roll over and take it. NOT ME! Even in your scenario he DOES have the right to protect himself from intruders. For everybody reading this, don’t be fooled into thinking that a front door will keep someone hell bent on getting in will stop them. The response time for law enforcement isn’t fast enough to protect you from an eminent assault.
I feel so sorry for Adawiya, the homeowner. This man is a college graduate with a good job. He was a track athlete in school and plays in a baseball league today. He wasn’t looking for trouble, it hunted him down in his own home.
We’ve all watched our justice system fail again and again by refusing to punish violent career criminals- I hope it doesn’t fail us again by persecuting this man. Take the three drunks and give them six months of picking up trash on the side of the road in an orange vest. Give Adawiya a sincere apology, and call it all good.
Scv is turning in to scum!
What would a reasonable person, parent and human do if they were placed in this position? They would do exactly what Adawiya did. His children and family are inside while these drunken losers are violently pounding on his door and him defending himself and protecting himself and his family gets him in jail? Wtf is wrong with this system? He is the victim in this situation and these drunks need to be taught a lesson.
Doesn’t make sense, why do you need a key to get out of the pool? Why did the home owner get arrested to? Sounds like more to the story we are not getting
It doesn’t make sense for anyone to be that outraged that they can’t get out of the pool. There has to be more to the story. Doesn’t make any sense
That’s not what I heard.
I heard he (the homeowner) was harassing a 14y/o girl at the pool. And when her 23 year old sister came to address the rudeness, he actually starting beating on her. As soon as the guys saw this man wailing on her, that’s when they went into action attacking him, for hitting this woman. Then the ‘homeowner’ took the young men’s keys and ran to his house. I’m sure there’s more to the story, but this narrative is definitely not what happened. This man definitely played a part….from what I heard.
