Four Arrested On Burglary Charges After 5 Freeway Pursuit Through Santa Clarita

Four suspects from Northern California are in custody after leading multiple police agencies on a high-speed 5 Freeway pursuit after a residential burglary in Burbank, officials said Friday.

On Thursday around 7 p.m., Burbank Police officers responded to the 800 block of Stephen Road regarding suspicious circumstances and possible burglary activity, said Sgt. Derek Green, a spokesperson for the Burbank Police Department.

“The Burbank Police Joint Air Support Unit arrived overhead and spotted a man running from a residence nearby, who then jumped into an awaiting vehicle,” Green said.

Through investigation, it was determined that a home in the area had been burglarized, according to Burbank Police officials.

“Burbank Police Patrol Units responded to the neighborhood and saw the car, a black Ford

Fusion occupied by four individuals,” Green said.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled, leading police on a pursuit, according to BPD officials.

The vehicle committed numerous traffic violations and reached high speeds as it continued through Burbank before entering the 134 Freeway then transitioning to the 5 Freeway, Green said.

As police pursued the vehicle, the occupants were seen throwing items out of the car’s windows, believed to be property stolen in the burglary, according to law enforcement officials.

The items discarded by the suspects were found by Burbank Police Officers and determined to be property belonging to the victims of the residential burglary, according to Green.

The pursuit continued north along the 5 Freeway through the Santa Clarita Valley.

Burbank Police were assisted by officers from the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office and deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

When the pursuit reached Santa Clarita the suspects exited the freeway at Magic Mountain Parkway where officials chased them through the industrial center before re-entered the northbound 5 Freeway at Highway 126.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the pursuit came to an end on the 5 Freeway south of Vista Del Lago Road, near Pyramid Lake, Green said.

All four suspects were taken into custody.

The suspects have been identified as Demaria Adger, 24, Quazaye Waugh, 22, Dominique Williams, 24, all from Oakland and Marcus Samuels, 19, from Antioch, according to the BPD.

All four suspects were booked on suspicion of residential burglary and are being held on $100,000 bail.
