Impaired Driver Arrested, Says He Was ‘Having Too Much Fun’ In His Car

An impaired driver was arrested in Newhall Tuesday after deputies reportedly found that he was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana, officials said.

At approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, a deputy patrolling on Railroad Avenue saw a car pass by on opposing lanes at a high rate of speed, according to officials.

“The deputy made a U-turn and observed the vehicle continuing to travel at a high rate of speed,” reads a post from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

After conducting a traffic stop, the deputy asked the male adult driver why he was driving so fast, who reportedly proceeded to reply that he was, “having too much fun in his car,” according to officials.

The deputy also learned that the driver had recently consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana, according to officials.

“Field sobriety tests were administered and the ‘giggling driver’ was unable to pass them,” the post reads.

23-year-old David Bernabe of Newhall was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, and for possession of an open container of marijuana.

He was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where bail was set at $5,050.
