Canyon High School was put on lockdown Wednesday after reports that a juvenile who stole a car reportedly had a gun on campus.
Around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, deputies received reports of a stolen vehicle near Canyon High School on the 19300 block of Nadal Street in Canyon Country, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Lockdown Lifted (2:11 p.m.)
The Lockdown at Canyon High School was lifted after the teenage suspect was taken into custody at gunpoint by law enforcement.
Deputies are currently conducting a stolen vehicle investigation on Nadal Street, along Canyon High School. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while a suspect was detained. “A juvenile reportedly stole mom’s vehicle and made threats to her, and possibly had a firearm,” Arriaga said.
However, it is unknown if the suspect had a gun.
Canyon High School was put on a brief lockdown as deputies worked to locate the suspect.
As of 1:50 p.m., the juvenile has been detained on campus, according to Arriaga.
The school will remain on lockdown until deputies are 100 percent confident that all students are safe, according to Hart District officials.
