Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) officials confirmed Friday that gunshots had been fired near Sierra Vista Junior High School the day before and prompting a lockdown, they were seeking additional information on the Santa Clarita shooting incident.
The shooting is believed to have occurred around 3:10 p.m. Thursday after a fight on the 19400 block of Stillmore Street in Santa Clarita, near the intersection of Camp Plenty Road, leading to a school lockdown according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Shots fired are confirmed, despite no shell casings located. The motive is unclear at this time, “ Arriaga said.
There is no one in custody due to the incident as of Friday morning, and all suspects remain outstanding, according to Arriaga.

“We put our schools on lockdown, Sierra Vista Junior High School and Canyon High School, because of law enforcement activity in the neighborhood, so it was merely as a precaution,” said Dave Caldwell, Public Relations Officer for the Hart District at the time. “No student was injured, nothing occurred on campus at either Sierra Vista or at Canyon High School.”
