Man Arrested For Possession Of Pipe Bomb Materials In Valencia

Deputies arrested an individual after he was allegedly found in possession of materials consistent with making a pipe bomb during a crime suppression operation Tuesday in Valencia.

Around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, deputies with the Crime Prevention Unit made contact with an individual in the 28000 block of Newhall Ranch Road for a theft investigation, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“What started as a theft investigation, led to the recovery of a loaded firearm not registered to the male, additional ammunition, as well as materials used to make a pipe bomb, among other contraband,” Arriaga said.

Garrett Willacker, 21, from Detroit, Michigan, was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm, possession of materials used to make a destructive device, both felonies, among other charges, Arriaga added.

Willacker was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $185,100, according to arrest records.

Man Arrested For Possession Of Pipe Bomb Materials In Valencia

  1. Nice get! Get him out of SCV and into jail

  2. I’m a little concerned about this arrest. What’s pictured is a reproduction of an antique “cap and ball” black powder revolver. They do not require any sort of registration nor do they require purchase through an FFL. To operate one you would have a flask of black powder, which could be construed as “materials to make…” Almost every homeowner has a bin of sprinkler repair parts, which could also be construed as “materials.” So it seems like every person who owns a historic gun and a sprinkler system could be arrested for these exact same charges despite a lack of intent.

  3. Hey “TAP”, While awaiting trial can he come and stay with you?

  4. The good ole hysterical reaction to the evil gun by the Naive, delicate public. Was the evil person wearing the uniform/style of a demented thug or gang banger?!

  5. That’s a firearm that can be unregistered. And the man had a receipt in his bag from purchasing it but police have chosen to ignore it for now. It was also capped which is how it’s considered actually loaded or unloaded so there are many issues with this arrest. Those materials for “bomb making” are common materials for metallurgy….this is looking like a street kid profiling arrest more and more. And yes, to whoever asked, he can come stay with me while you continue to blindly trust the cops lol

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
