A man was arrested in Castaic Sunday night after a sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Park Bureau reportedly found a loaded firearm in the man’s car, officials said.
On Sunday night, a sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau was patrolling a shopping center parking lot at The Old Road and Hasley Canyon Road when he noticed a suspicious individual.
“He saw a man parked in a car with Georgia license plates who appeared to be intensely watching customers frequenting a Bank of America ATM,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in a Facebook post Monday.
The sergeant decided to approach the vehicle after watching the man for several minutes.
“As he got closer to the car, he smelled the apparent odor of marijuana,” Miller wrote.
After making contact with the man, the sergeant discovered that he did not have a driver’s licence or any ties to the Santa Clarita area, according to officials.
“But what the driver did have was a firearm sitting next to him in a bag,” Miller wrote.
The man, 26-year-old Jaimee Baker, was arrested on felony charges of carrying a loaded firearm. He was transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Always remain vigilant to your surroundings, especially when using bank ATMs,” Miller wrote. “You never know who is watching.”

Sound like profiling to me . Smells like weed. Ive had this happen to me . They tell me my car smells like weed . Its your skin color. Carrying a loaded gun yeah bad.But in the sc valley it means profiling. If he commited a crime hey got get em. But sitting in a car dosent matter where it is shouldnt be grounds to go fishing. Know your rights .Dont blindly give them up for the sake of saftey. NO I dont condone the use of weed
Dunny you have no clue. It’s that style of thinking and people like you ruining this state. Always dropping profiling and skin color. Just call it what it is. Let me guess you are entitled and all about #resist BLM nonsense. Why do you assume racism? Is it because you are a racist? Do you assume it’s profiling because the officer is an officer or because he is a white officer. How do you even know the officer is white? I’m sure there were way more circumstances involved in this other than hey it’s a black guy sitting in his car let’s talk to him because I smell weed. If the cops didn’t have a reason and the dude wasn’t doing anything wrong the cops would move on to the next violator. It’s called being proactive and preventing crime. The cops know what your rights are just like they know their rights and they how how to do their job. Way to go SCV sheriff’s. Thanks for getting another idiot criminal who doesn’t belong here out of our valley.
DunnyBird, would you be singing the same tune had one of your loved ones used the ATM, withdrew cash and as they returned to the car was held at gun point and robbed or worse yet shot? Would it still have been profiling? This was a bad situation that was properly and professionally addressed by an alert cop. Having a loaded firearm, with a 15 round magazine, with weed in the car are all solid reasons for arrest…the fact that this person was from out of town / state and watching people go to and from an ATM and had a gun, this could have been a very tragic situation had it not been for that cop.
Great job Deputies keep up the great work. Dunnybird you’re clueless and make excuses for pieces of shit that we need of the street instead of harming people in our community. Profiling ????? Your either a Liberal or a Millennial , either way you have your head up your ass.
