Deputies arrested a man on felony charges in Newhall Friday after he allegedly hit a bus with his wheelchair footrest multiple times.
The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. Friday near the Newhall Metrolink station, according to officials.
Terry Lee Williams, 59, of Rosamond, was a passenger on a bus reportedly heading for North Hollywood.
“On the course of his ride, he became upset with the bus driver,” said Deputy Josh Stamsek with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “As he was leaving, he unscrewed the footrest on his wheelchair and proceeded to strike the bus with the footrest.”
Deputies responded to the scene, where they proceeded to shut down Railroad Avenue at the intersection of Market Street for approximately five minutes.
The incident was initially reported as an assault with a deadly weapon, but Williams was ultimately arrested on felony charges of property damage.
Williams was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at approximately 6 p.m. Friday.
He is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles with no bail, according to Los Angeles County criminal logs.
Williams had previously been arrested on felony charges in Lancaster on Feb. 8, exactly one month before the bus incident. He had been released exactly one week before this incident on March 1.
