A young adult sustained minor injuries on Monday evening following an altercation outside of a Castaic store.

The incident was reported as a stabbing outside of a store in the 31800 block of Castaic Road shortly before 7 p.m., said Lt. Bryan Aguilera with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The male young adult sustained minor injuries following an altercation with an employee of the store, said Aguilera. Neither party were transported to the hospital.

Deputies reviewed video footage from the store, which showed the victim enter with another young man, who took items from the store without the victim knowing, Aguilera said. An employee confronted the victim, believing he was involved, and accidentally cut him with a box cutter.

“It was accidental,” said Aguilera. “The video footage clearly shows that.”

While initially reported as a stabbing, the only crime committed was a petty theft, said Aguilera. Deputies were able to learn the name of the thief from the victim.

The age of the the victim was not disclosed by Aguilera.
