Meth, Stolen Property Recovered From Bicyclist In Canyon Country

Deputies arrested a bicyclist after they recovered methamphetamine and property he allegedly stole from a Canyon Country store Monday.

On Monday, deputies responded to a reported theft at Tractor Supplies in the 16900 block of Sierra Highway in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect… allegedly entered the store, concealed approximately $500 worth of merchandise, and exited the store without paying,” Miller said.

The man fled the scene on a bicycle. A description of the suspect was sent out to responding units.

“Deputies located the individual riding along Sierra Highway shortly thereafter,” Miller said.

Angel Santiago, 34, from Canyon Country, was arrested on a felony theft charge, as further investigation revealed he had prior theft convictions.

Santiago was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Due to prior narcotics-related convictions, he was additionally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, Miller said.

The suspect was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail and remains in custody without bail, Miller added.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
