A person suspected of murder was arrested by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after a brief pursuit in Castaic Wednesday.

Just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, officials with a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Taskforce — separate from the SCV Sheriff’s Station — were following a person suspected of murder on the northbound 5 Freeway in the Newhall area, Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, a spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office confirmed.

Sheriff’s officials were not in pursuit or did not have the vehicle lit up, however requested the CHP to respond to conduct a traffic stop, according to Burgos-Lopez.

CHP officers responded and located the red semi-truck hauling a white trailer and initiated a traffic stop on the northbound 5 Freeway approximately 2 miles south of Templin Highway in Castaic, according to officials.

The driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated.

Speeds only reached 30 mph, and the driver pulled over after about 2 miles where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released to the media, was handed over to the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect was arrested for murder, however, as of the publication of this article no information into where the alleged crime occurred was released to the media.
