A Newhall assault suspect is facing felony charges for allegedly choking a female after a verbal argument escalated Sunday, officials said.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 11 p.m. at a residence on the 24600 block of Newhall Avenue, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The victim, a female (in her) 40s, and the suspect got into a verbal argument that turned physical,” Miller said.
The suspect allegedly had the victim by the throat, forcing her down as he continued to assault her, according to Miller.
Deputies made contact with the suspect and he was reportedly uncooperative.
Emanuel Martinez, 18, Santa Clarita, was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon due to the use of strangulation and resisting arrest, according to Miller.
Martinez was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $30,000, according to arrest records.

Glad Martinez was arrested before it killed here! Same ole area, same constant bad behavior! They keep pouring taxpayer $$$ blocks away to improve “lifestyles” in the area, but nothing improves! The beautiful taxpayer paid train station had graffiti within a week after it was built!!
