A Newhall assault suspect was arrested Monday after she allegedly charged at her roommate with a knife during a verbal argument, officials said.
On Monday, deputies responded to the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue in Newhall regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Deputies learned the incident took place on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 at approximately 9 p.m. in which two roommates were involved in a physical altercation at their place of residence,” Arriaga said.
During the altercation, the suspect opened her purse and retrieved a folding knife, Arriaga said.
The suspect opened the knife and lunged at her roommate, a 29-year-old woman, while pointing the knife at her.
“As additional roommates entered the room, the suspect exited the room and returned to her bedroom,” Arriaga said.
Both females suffered minor injuries and declined additional medical services.
Chyna Hodges, 19, from Newhall, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and the roommate was arrested for misdemeanor battery, Arriaga added.
Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.
