Between four officers, the citations were issued on the 5 Freeway between Hasley Canyon Road and SR-138.

The Newhall CHP officers stopped 27 commercial vehicles or big rigs, wrote 20 tickets and gave seven verbal warnings.

The citations issued to drivers were for “various reasons,” according to CHP Officer Eric Priessman.

Throughout the day, officers also placed one big rig out of service.

“One of the reasons this could happen is if the driver has been driving for too many hours that day,” said Priessman. “They have to be put out of service to rest.”

In addition to the big rig traffic stops, the four officers also stopped 34 cars, wrote 31 citations and issued three warnings, according to the agency’s social media post.

Earlier this week, two CHP Newhall officers wrote 22 citations in less than four hours.

“We had two officers working speed enforcement on the I-5 from Templin Highway to Lake Hughes,” according to officials with the CHP Newhall Office. “In three and a half hours, 24 vehicles were stopped, and 22 citations issued and two warnings were given.”

One of the 22 speeding citations given out was to a driver traveling at 108 mph on the 5 Freeway.

CHP officials are warning drivers to slow down, since “Los Angeles will still be there when you get there.”

  1. I was wondering how they were going to pay for Santa claritas extra patrols .it all makes sense now.

  2. Dave H, your naïveté would be cute if it wasn’t so blind. Read the news, being racially profiled or as the SCV Sheriff Dept. calls it “DWH” Driving While Hispanic. It’s real and happens to law abiding citizens. It’s also racist, unethical and a blatant civil rights violation.

  3. No, Dave H is correct and can probably see fine, those that want to blame others can use and make stats into whatever they want, and are themselves needing a cane. Saying something many times & very loud does not make it so. Bottom line; break the law, pay the Piper, no matter skin tone.
