Newhall Robbery Suspect Arrested After Stealing From Vallarta

A Newhall robbery suspect was taken into custody after he allegedly stole from Vallarta and threw a trashcan lid at a store employee last week.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a robbery at the Vallarta in the 23400 block of Lyons Avenue in Newhall, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect… allegedly entered the store, concealed merchandise, and left without paying,” Miller said. “When confronted by a loss prevention officer, (the suspect) reportedly became physically aggressive and threw a metal trashcan lid at the victim.”

Deputies located Phillip Lehman, 50, a transient who was identified as the wanted man in the Newhall robbery.

Lehman was arrested for felony robbery, Miller said.

He was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail and remains in custody with a $50,000 bond, according to Miller.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
