A Palmdale man was arrested after he was allegedly caught driving nearly 140 mph on local freeways Wednesday evening.
Around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area units observed a white Toyota Supra, traveling on the southbound 14 Freeway at Newhall Avenue at an approximate speed of 135 mph, Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office, said.
“Officers observed the Toyota making multiple lane changes at an approximate 120 mph as it approached I-5 (southbound),” Burgos-Lopez said. “The Toyota continued at high speeds ranging between 120 to 140 mph as the driver approached I-210.”
CHP units were able to catch up to the Toyota on the southbound 5 Freeway just north of San Fernando Mission Boulevard and conducted an enforcement stop, according to Burgos-Lopez.
The driver yielded on San Fernando Mission Boulevard.
Luis Payes Linares, 20, from Palmdale, was placed under arrest for reckless driving, according to Burgos-Lopez.
The driver was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.
