Parolee Arrested After Loaded Firearm Found In Vehicle In Canyon Country

A parolee was arrested Thursday after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded firearm after speeding on the 14 Freeway in Canyon Country.

Around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, an officer with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office was conducting speed enforcement checks on the 14 Freeway near Sand Canyon, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the Office.

“The officer observed a Mercedes SUV (driving) at a high rate of speed,” Greengard said.

The officer proceeded to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at Golden Valley Road, according to Greengard.

When the officer ran the driver’s name through law enforcement databases to see if he had any warrants, he found that the driver was on parole for robbery and evading police, Greengard said.

Due to the suspect being a convicted felon, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded 9mm handgun, which is a violation of his parole and illegal for a convicted felon to have, according to officials.

Bobby Johnson, 22, from Mission Hills, was arrested on a felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, Greengard added.

Johnson was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with no bail given, according to arrest records.

  1. In the good old days (pre-Gascon) this would have put him jail. Now, free as can be to commit more crimes.

  2. Good job CHP. Real police work

  3. These Idiot Felons don’t learn, and the fool is only 22, what a way to live. If Gas-Con hears about it he’ll let it out of jail, give him a Garrshity welcome home basket and send him to a safe space with a social worker.

  4. Gas-con already gave them a gift certificate to Turners or Dicks sporting goods to replenish their weapons of choice…..

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
