A stolen vehicle suspect who led the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on a pursuit Wednesday was taken into custody after being spun out on the 5 Freeway by law enforcement.
Around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, the Bakersfield Police Department notified the CHP Bakersfield Communications Center of a stolen vehicle, which had been taken from the owner by a transient, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.
“A CHP Fort Tejon unit located the vehicle on the southbound I-5 in Gorman,” Greengard said. “The Fort Tejon unit initiated a traffic enforcement stop and the driver failed to yield.”
The CHP officer initiated a pursuit that reached speeds of 100 mph, according to officials.
The pursuit entered into the CHP Newhall Area and was taken over by local officers.
“A Newhall Area unit was able to successfully PIT the vehicle,” Greengard said.
The chase came to an end on the southbound 5 Freeway just north of Magic Mountain Parkway, according to officials.
The sole suspect was taken into custody and brought back to Bakersfield, according to Greengard.
