Reported Drug-, Alcohol-Related Arrests In Santa Clarita Rise For Third Straight Week

Over half of the arrests reported over the weekend were related to drugs and alcohol, marking the third straight weekend where the number of such arrests has risen.

Between Friday, Dec. 27 and Sunday, Dec. 29, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office reportedly made 46 arrests within the Santa Clarita Valley, according to weekend arrest records.

Of those arrests, 27 were related to drugs and alcohol, with seven reported instances of DUI, 13 reported arrests for possession of a controlled substance, six reported incidents of being under the influence, and one reported arrest for possession of narcotics paraphernalia, according to booking logs.

This represents a roughly 17 percent increase in such crimes compared to the previous weekend. Additionally, these figures show that the number of drug- and alcohol-related arrests made continually increased over the weekends of December, according to officials.

Half of the arrests made were for individuals who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while eight were reportedly homeless, according to weekend arrest records.
