Reported Street Race Stopped On Soledad After Reaching Over 100 MPH

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station stopped a reported street race on Soledad Canyon Road Monday morning after two individuals reportedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph.

At around 7:15 a.m. Monday, a deputy with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station was parked in a parking lot off of Commuter Way in Saugus when they observed a Chevrolet Camaro pass by at a “high rate of speed,” according to officials.

“Trailing not too far behind was a Scion XB, that appeared to be attempting to keep up with the Camaro,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station, in a Facebook post Tuesday.

Both vehicles were stopped by deputies, and the drivers were arrested for “engaging in a speed contest,” Miller wrote.

The cars were towed and impounded for 30 days.

“After fines and impound fees, each driver is looking at a total cost of approximately $5,000,” Miller wrote.

Both drivers were transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“A car is a deadly weapon if used recklessly,” Miller wrote. “If you choose to drive recklessly, you could be jailed, be fatally injured or take someone’s life; perhaps, the life of someone you love, or your own.”

  1. First – Why would a Scion XB even think it stands a chance against a Camaro (even if the Camaro was just an RS)?

Second – Where in the heck was there enough distance to hit 100+ mph on that stretch of Soledad at 7:15am on a Monday?

These two individuals put a lot of innocent lives at risk. Hopefully they learned a very valuable lesson here…they are lucky it only cost them 30 days without their ride and $5K each. It could have been a lot more.

  2. Yay!!! The license plate holder on the back of my car says, ” My son, now…. forever gone, a street racer.” Santa Clarita and almost every town in USA, were losing kids right and left 15 years ago. I believe we probably are on an up swing again. We had 5 kids killed in Elk Grove, CA in 2002/2004. The EG Police Department got diligent and it stopped.
