Santa Clarita High-Speed Pursuit Driver In Custody After Over 100 MPH Chase

A high-speed pursuit suspect that began in Santa Clarita was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after fleeing from law enforcement reaching speeds over 120 mph.

The pursuit began just before midnight Tuesday, when officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office attempted to make a traffic stop on an Acura Integra on the southbound 14 Freeway near Via Princessa traveling around 113 mph, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

The driver did not stop and officers initiated a pursuit.

“The pursuit speeds fluctuated between 100 and 130 mph,” Greengard said.

The suspect led law enforcement on to the southbound 5 Freeway and on to the 170 Freeway, according to Greengard.

The high-speed pursuit exited at Sherman Way, and got back onto the 170 and 5 Freeways heading north, according to Greengard.

The driver then led CHP on the westbound 118 Freeway and exited at Nordoff Street, where the pursuit continued on surface streets.

“After several direction changes on surface streets the suspect vehicle came to a stop next to his residence,” Greengard said.

Arturo Alvarado, 22, from North Hills was taken into custody after the conclusion of the pursuit on charges of felony evading a police officer around 12:26 a.m. Wednesday, according to Greengard.

Alvarado was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail where bail was set at $75,000, according to arrest records.

  1. Too bad I can’t read the article . The stupid ads cover the content & you can’t close the ad.

  2. 118 doesn’t have a nordhoff exit. The 405 does
Agree with the ads blocking the story line . Stop It !!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
