A mail thief was caught on Ring camera stealing mail from two Valencia resident’s mailboxes in broad daylight Thursday.
On Nov. 14 around 2:38 p.m., a man wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants with white shoes, was seen on camera reaching into two mailboxes and taking mail near McBean Parkway and Del Monte Drive in Valencia..
The man quickly walks off and begins to run as he rounds the corner, in a video provided to KHTS by the Valencia resident.
“My neighbor and I are now getting a mail box that is locked,” said the resident. “I will be filing a police report and a report with the postmaster.”
Now that the holiday season is here, officials offer the following tips to help provent mail theft.
With most mail being delivered during daytime hours, officials recommend having packages delivered to one’s workplace. Other options include utilizing secure locker pickup locations offered by some companies.
Residents are also able to sign up for “Informed Delivery,” a program through the USPS that allows residents to see what mail is being delivered even before making a trip to the mailbox.
The postal service takes pictures of mail as it is scanned at their facilities, and then shares those digital images with residents in a daily email at no cost.
This way, residents can be aware of important mail that is being delivered and avoid leaving these items in the mailbox or on their porches.
