The “Door Kick Challenge” social media trend has hit Santa Clarita, and this violent prank can end in serious consequences.
With the increase in reports around the valley, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has issued an alert to all neighborhoods to shine light on the Door Kick Challenge.
The trend called the “Door Kick Challenge” has started popping up around Santa Clarita. The challenge involves teens recording themselves kicking the front doors of homes before running away; a brazen combination of ding-dong-ditch and home invasion.
In a Facebook post from last week, sheriffs are urging parents to have a conversation with their children about this trend, as it can result in very serious repercussions.
“What may seem like a harmless prank for social media is actually a crime. It can result in felony vandalism charges and creates a dangerous situation for everyone involved. The person behind the door has no way of knowing whether someone is trying to break into their home, and the person kicking the door never knows what may be waiting on the other side,” deputies stated.
The door kick challenge first appeared in September of 2021, hitting the headlines in 2025 when several confrontations between teens and homeowners turned fatal.
Sheriffs are also reminding homeowners to have their doors locked and to check that their doorbell cameras are working properly.
If you are a victim of this social media trend, report it to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at 661-260-4000.
