Over the weekend of Dec. 20-22, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office officers made 22 arrests, a nine-person increase from the previous week.
Among the incidents, four individuals were arrested for driving under the influence, which is the lowest number of DUI drivers in months.
Domestic violence cases also stood out, with six arrests made during the weekend. Drug-related offenses were another key focus, as five people were taken into custody for possession of controlled substances, including three cases involving intent to sell.
In another troubling instance, a man from Lancaster was apprehended for grand theft.
Misuse of the 911 emergency system led to one arrest. Under California law, intentionally using the 911 system to annoy or harass someone is a misdemeanor that can result in up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both, although calls made in good faith are exempt.
Another arrest involved the possession of brass knuckles, a prohibited item under California Penal Code 21810 PC, which bans their possession, sale, manufacture, or lending.
Additional arrests included one individual for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and another for driving on a suspended or revoked license. There were also charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and a separate incident of vandalism.
In total, law enforcement recorded 11 felonies and 11 misdemeanors over the weekend. This marked an increase in activity compared to the prior period, with the number of arrests rising from 13 to 22.
