The initial call went out to Santa Clarita deputies regarding a burglary in progress regarding a pharmacy on Haskell Canyon Road, although station officials did not identify the business.

“There was a burglary in progress over at a store on Haskell Canyon Road,” said Shirley Miller, Sheriff’s Station PIO.

Deputies responded to the burglary in progress around 2:41 a.m. Wednesday, and the suspects then fled the scene in a car.

The vehicle was abandoned near Saugus High, officials said, and the suspects, who were adults, fled in the direction of the campus. Deputies were able to apprehend the driver by approximately 3:30 a.m., according to officials.

However, the other two suspects initially escaped, prompting deputies to set up a containment area that included the high school.

An “all-clear” message was sent out on social media around 7 a.m., after the remaining two suspects were taken into custody, Miller said.

The Hart district issued a statement regarding the incident, which prompted a late start schedule change:

The high school opened at its regular late-start time of 8:55 a.m.
