Screaming, Intoxicated Transient Found Lying In Street Charged With Battery After Fighting Deputies

An intoxicated transient was arrested on battery charges Saturday after she allegedly fought a Santa Clarita deputy following reports she was lying in the street, screaming.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 23700 block of Newhall Avenue in Newhall, for a woman who was lying in the street and screaming, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, a deputy observed a female matching the suspect description laying in the middle of the street,” Arriaga said.

When the deputy approached the woman, she attempted to walk away, according to Arriaga.

“A brief struggle ensued while the deputy attempted to detain the suspect,” Arriaga said.

A short period later, the deputy was able to detain the woman without further incident.

“During the investigation, deputies observed the suspect had signs and symptoms similar to someone under the influence of a controlled substance,” Arriaga said.

Samantha Rubio, 36, a transient, was arrested for felony battery on a peace officer and a misdemeanor for being under the influence of a controlled substance, Arriaga added.

Rubio was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $27,500, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
