SCV Sheriff’s Station Distributes ‘Protected Business’ Stickers In Effort To Deter Retail Theft

Local businesses now have a new tool to help fight back against retail theft, and it fits right in their window.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has begun distributing “Protected Business” stickers, part of a larger crime-prevention effort against retail theft spearheaded by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The stickers, now available at the station lobby on a first-come, first-served basis, are meant to deter theft by signaling law enforcement presence.

Local businesses can pick one up by visiting the station in person and providing their business name and address.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized that the effort reflects a zero-tolerance approach toward retail theft.

“The lifeblood of our communities have been under attack,” Hochman said. “If you want to go ahead and engage in theft in Los Angeles County, you will be held accountable. You will be arrested, you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Our goal is to deter these criminals from committing these crimes in the first place, thus saving a whole lot of victims.”

The move comes as officials across Los Angeles County ramp up efforts to crack down on organized retail crime.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Chief Joe Mendoza said the department has seen a spike in theft rings targeting retail establishments and has responded with new resources, including a dedicated Retail Theft Task Force.

“The most important element to disrupting criminal networks is for the public to report retail thefts and where the stolen goods are being sold,” Mendoza said. “If anyone has information, please contact your local law enforcement agency.”

Though Santa Clarita’s crime rates remain lower than many parts of the county, the SCV Sheriff’s Station says proactive steps like this sticker initiative are crucial to keeping crime low and community trust high.

  1. It is sad that it comes down to this. People know not to steal, however some do it anyway.
