Deputies with the Summer Team were patrolling near Pico Canyon and The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch on Tuesday when they observed a vehicle with an expired registration, and upon contact, noticed that the male driver appeared very nervous, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“During a search of the vehicle, deputies located drug paraphernalia, a plastic baggie containing methamphetamine, and a loaded firearm,” Arriaga said. “Further investigation identified the firearm to be stolen.”

Matthew McCann, 41, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm, concealed firearm in a vehicle, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, lane straddling and expired registration, Arriaga added.

McCann was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and released on citation to appear in court at a later date.
