Six Abandoned Vehicles Red-Tagged, One Towed In Saugus

Deputies red-tagged six cars and towed one suspected abandoned vehicle in Saugus on Tuesday morning, officials said.

Crime Prevention Unit deputies were sent out to check several streets in Saugus and Stevenson Ranch where residents had reported possibly abandoned vehicles, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“On one Saugus street, half a dozen vehicles were red-tagged and another vehicle was towed,” Miller said.

When a vehicle has a red tag left by deputies in the windshield, it serves as a warning to the owner that the vehicle cannot be left on the street for more than 72 consecutive hours in the same spot, or it will be presumed abandoned, according to officials.

“If the vehicle is not moved, it is subject to being towed,” Miller said.

When deputies checked the vehicles on the streets brought to their attention, it was reportedly obvious that some cars had been parked for an extended period of time based on their appearance, Miller said.

“When deputies checked registered owner information on the abandoned vehicles, the owners did not even live in the immediate vicinity of that neighborhood,” Miller said.

One registered owner’s information came back with a residential address in Los Angeles, according to officials.

“We not only want to keep the crime rate down in the SCV, but we want to also keep the neighborhoods looking nice for the residents we serve,” Miller said.

  1. What! These were available shelters for the overflow crowd at Bridge to Wealth housing project down the street.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
