Stolen Vehicle Suspect Leads Deputies On Foot Pursuit In Santa Clarita

A stolen vehicle suspect was arrested in Santa Clarita Tuesday night after he led deputies on a foot pursuit along Soledad Canyon Road.

Around 11 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were patrolling the 23000 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country when they identified a stolen vehicle parked at a gas station, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies approached the vehicle and did not locate any persons inside the car,” Arriaga said. “Deputies conducted a perimeter check of the nearby vicinity and located a male adult standing alone in the parking lot.”

As the deputies approached the man, he fled on foot towards Soledad Canyon Road.

“Deputies (determined) that the male was the suspect for the stolen vehicle and went in foot pursuit of the male,” Arriaga said.

Just a short period later, the deputies detained the suspect without incident along Soledad Canyon Road, before returning to the vehicle and recovering drug paraphernalia and a plastic baggie containing methamphetamine, Arriaga said.

Benjamin Taylor, 28, was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession of a controlled substance.

Taylor was held in lieu of $1,000 and released the following evening on a citation, according to booking logs.
