A Canyon Country man was arrested this week after he fled a traffic stop where his stolen vehicle struck a Sheriff’s patrol vehicle in July.

On July 8, 2025, a deputy patrolling on Newhall Avenue observed a vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect… exited the vehicle while it was still in motion and fled on foot,” Miller said. “The vehicle collided with the deputy’s patrol car and was later determined to be stolen.”

Through investigative work, Crime Impact Team deputies tracked the suspect to an apartment on Silver Saddle Circle Monday afternoon.

Rafael Salinas, 33, of Canyon Country, was arrested for felony assault on a peace officer, according to Miller.
