Pursuit Suspect Booked On Drug Charges, Evading Police On Sierra Highway

A man was arrested after he led California Highway Patrol (CHP) on a pursuit early Sunday morning in Canyon Country, which resulted in the recovery of drugs and a replica firearm.

At approximately 12:42 a.m. Sunday, officers with the CHP started a pursuit after attempting to conduct a traffic stop of the suspect’s Toyota Camry on Sierra Highway and Via Princessa, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“The suspect initially stopped but then began evading officers,” Greengard said. “The suspect drove through multiple surface streets in the Canyon Country area before stopping on Soledad Canyon and Deep Creek Drive.”

Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident, according to Greengard.

Quoc Tran, 36,  a transient, was subsequently arrested for evading a police officer, drug charges, and for possession of a pellet gun resembling a real handgun, Greengard added.

Tran was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with no bail, according to booking logs.
