A suspected Santa Clarita car thief was arrested by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Special Assignment Team in Lancaster on Saturday, officials said.

Vincent Call, 33, had multiple warrants out for his arrest when he was taken into custody, said Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Station.
“They had a suspect that had several outstanding high-dollar warrants for auto theft and narcotics-related charges,” she said. “They went up to Lancaster and they were able to take him into custody.”
Another man in the car with Call when he was taken into custody was also arrested: Shey Garrity, 38, was arrested for possession of heroin.
They were both taken from the Antelope Valley to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and booked, Miller said.

She pointed to a growing trend in the Santa Clarita Valley of burglars breaking into houses and stealing the car in the garage.
“They would think their car is fine because it’s in a locked garage,” Miller said. But those who leave their keys in the car while parked are at a higher risk.
