Teenager Arrested In Connection With Newhall Carjacking Leaving Victim Shot, Two Suspects At-Large

A 16-year-old was arrested in connection with a Newhall carjacking where the victim was shot after he complied with the suspects’ demands on Tuesday evening.

Around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the Shell Gas station on the 20500 block of Newhall Avenue in Newhall regarding a possible carjacking and gunshot victim, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen,” Arriaga said.

Deputies learned during the early part of their investigation that the victim was approached by two individuals demanding the victim’s vehicle, Arriaga said.

“The victim willingly gave up his vehicle, however, unprovoked, one of the suspects shot the victim,” Arriaga said. “The suspects then fled on foot, however, one suspect returned and stole the victim’s vehicle.”

Containment Set Up To Search For Shooting Suspects

Deputies established a containment and searched for the suspects near the Meadowridge Apartments, a few hundred yards west of the gas station, according to officials.

“One suspect, a male juvenile, 16-years-old, was apprehended during the search along Meadowridge Drive in Newhall,” Arriaga said. “The male suspect driving the victim’s vehicle lost control of the vehicle a short period later, approximately one-quarter mile from the shooting location.”

After the crash, the containment expanded to surround the collision, according to officials.

As the investigation progressed, detectives confirmed a third suspect was involved, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Deputies, with help from a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, were unable to locate the two suspects, despite multiple sightings of the wanted persons from witnesses living in the area.

The teenager arrested was booked for carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, Arriaga added.

He was transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall and remains in custody at this time.  The teenage suspect remains unidentified to the media due to his status as a minor.

The investigation remains ongoing.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive,” Arriaga said.

  1. Absolutely depraved. We have to stop tolerating this behavior by demanding accountability, penance, service and removal from society. The more of this behavior we allow, the more we are getting of it. Chesa Boudin just got recalled thankfully for letting this stuff go unpunished and Gascon is of the same ilk and also needs to be recalled.

  2. Agreed. Also, do we know where the gun came from?

  3. Lock the teenager up until he identifies his two accomplishes and then put them all in the slammer for the next 35 years.

  4. We need to do what S.F. did to their D.A. and recall the L.A. County D.A. Gascon. Too much has hit the fan since he has been in office.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
