Stolen catalytic converters and a firearm were located after deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration.

Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, deputies were patrolling the Canyon Country area when they observed a vehicle’s registration was expired from June of 2020, said Deputy Kabrina Borbon, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies contacted the male driver and female passenger of the vehicle,” Borbon said. “During the investigation, deputies observed multiple cutting tools inside of the vehicle.”

Both individuals were detained.

“The deputies recovered two catalytic converters, a firearm magazine and a loaded firearm,” Borbon said.

The driver, Ivan Jimenez, 34 from Lancaster, was a felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

Jimenez and Stephanie Campos, 32 from Palmdale were arrested and booked into the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on several charges including felony grand theft.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
