Two Child Abuse Suspects Arrested After Forcing Child To Sleep Outside In Tent

Two child abuse suspects were arrested Tuesday after they allegedly forced their child to sleep outside multiple times, officials said.

On Monday around 10:30 p.m. deputies responded to a call for service to a residence on the 19900 block of Christopher Lane, Santa Clarita, regarding possible child abuse, said Candice Gonzales, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported by an unknown informant that the child was being abused at the location,” Gonzales said.

Upon further investigation, deputies discovered the child had been forced to sleep outside in a tent numerous times as a form of discipline, without access to food, water and indoor utilities, according to Gonzales.

Both parents, Edwin and Tammy Mourthi, of Santa Clarita were arrested for child abuse and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, with the mother’s bail set at $100,000.

Two Child Abuse Suspects Arrested After Forcing Child To Sleep Outside In Tent

  1. Hmmmm. When I was a kid, we’d sleep in the back yard in a tent voluntarily, and we’d call it “camping’! Getting FORCED to do it, well, that’s just weird! Hey, back then, we’d probably LIKE it, though! LOL! Any opportunity to have a bunch of friends stay over night for fun!

    • Not when it’s a form of punishment. I’m sure you were able to have food, water and go inside for the bathroom.
This wasn’t fun for the kid nor was your remark funny

  2. Geez….Firstly, the age of this “kid” wasn’t said and to me that makes a HUGE difference. Secondly, although not a nice thing to do to your own kid, this is not even close to child abuse. Unless there are other unknown circumstances that haven’t come to light yet. I can’t believe what’s considered child abuse in todays world. Now if the kid was forced to sleep outside with no blankets or sweaters, now that would be moving into child abuse territory.

  3. That’s the Woke Liberals idea of an outdoor safe space. Maybe the experience will Tuff-in the child up so they won’t be a frail, metrosexual, sissy woke Liberal cry baby! They do worse punishments in the Middle East——

  4. Ricardo
    Sam
    Are

You are disgusting. This was a child who was forced to sleep outside .

    NO WATER
    NO FOOD
NO ACCESS TO INDOOR FACILITIES— ie:Bathroom

That is abuse in the eyes of the law & people with common sense.

  5. Having NO Wi-Fi …is child abuse. Not having a newest iPhone… is child abuse. When a kid doesn’t want to go to school and you make them go… is child abuse. Kids can say anything to the police and now THAT could land someone in jail… all because a kid didn’t have Wi-Fi for his (mostly her) iPhone while they don’t go to school. That’s why kids now are dumb, stupid and rather make TikTok videos vs. listening to their parents and doing what they are told. Watch out parents: Kids are the parents now.

    • Kim’s: Sam, David & Arn make sense, it’s called a light hearted teaching mode to respect their elders, which society doesn’t have enough of these days! Helicopter parenting is much more destructive to a growing child (especially a young male). When one thinks with over emotional responses, instead of logic, it teaches the youth to behave the same ways—-just look at the cell addicted Zombie melenials who don’t know how toTalk to a human!

  6. How about they just try parenting! Parents give their kids everything they didn’t get. Earning something a child wants teaches them responsibility. We’ve lost our way, and don’t make it political , Ricardo!!! It’s called PARENTING! We have a license to drive, but the most precious gift all is excluded, and far too many people came from abusive homes and continue the cycle. Parenting requires skills & education, so lets get down to the basics here, and if people want a child, not just because the seat of their pants boiled their brains, then they should take a parenting class just like they take birthing classes to be a step ahead of the game. A CHILD IS A LIFETIME COMMITMENT!

  7. Real child abuse is what was chronically done by Hispanic parents to several Hispanic children resulting in death in Lancaster/Palmdale. As well as what you tube cook Bird Gang Gang is verbally doing to her poor children!! Why isn’t CPS investigating what’s being done to those poor abused children in Newhall!! Please help them!!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
