Vandalism Suspect Arrested After Breaking Items In Castaic Store After Employee Refuses To Give Him Money

A transient was arrested on vandalism Friday after allegedly throwing items off store shelves in Castaic after not receiving money he demanded from the store clerk.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a business on the 27600 block of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic regarding a business  vandalism, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported a male was inside the location screaming and breaking items,” Arriaga said.

Upon arrival, deputies detained a possible vandalism suspect that was being held by store employees, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“During investigation, deputies learned the suspect entered the store and asked for money,” Arriaga said. “When declined by employees, the suspect began to yell incoherently and throw items off the shelves.”

Michael Gellar, 58, a transient, was arrested for felony vandalism, Arriaga added.

-Gellar was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail, where he remains in custody as of Monday morning, according to Arriaga.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
