Despite an overall decline in crime over the weekend, a tragic case of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence became the most serious incident among 26 arrests reported in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station noted a slight decrease in total arrests compared to the previous weekend’s 35, marking a small dip in overall crime.
However, the weekend was marred by a fatal vehicular manslaughter case involving 21-year-old Martin Cazares of Wasco, California, who was taken into custody on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
In total, law enforcement recorded 13 misdemeanors and 13 felonies. Of the 26 individuals arrested, 11 were from outside the area, including one woman from Indiana charged with assault likely to produce great bodily injury, while the remaining 16 were residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.
Other notable arrests included nine DUI cases, two domestic violence incidents, and several narcotics-related offenses, such as possession of a controlled substance for sale, transport and sale of narcotics, and possession with prior convictions.
Deputies also reported arrests for burglary, conspiracy, petty theft, and assault with a deadly weapon not involving a firearm.
