A wanted Val Verde man was arrested Thursday on multiple felonies including assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly threatened an individual with a firearm on the Fourth of July, officials said.
On Thursday, Career Offenders, Burglary, Robbery and Assault (COBRA) detectives teamed up with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau to serve a warrant on a possibly armed suspect in Val Verde, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was sought in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon incident that occurred on July 4, where the suspect threatened victim(s) with a firearm,” Miller said.
Due to the suspect’s criminal history and possibility of having firearms, the COBRA team enlisted the resources of Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) deputies to ensure safety for all, according to Miller.
John Lopez, 33, from Val Verde, was taken into custody without incident on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and narcotics sales, Miller said.
Three small children between the ages of 1-3 were safely taken out of the home and released to a DCFS social worker.
The suspect was charged with child endangerment due to the narcotics allegedly being accessible to the children, according to Miller.
Lopez was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail was bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.
