Wanted Kidnapping Suspect Arrested After Drinking In Public, Fighting Deputies

A wanted kidnapping suspect was arrested Friday night after deputies found him and three other individuals drinking in public.

At around 9:30 p.m. Friday, deputies patrolling the 18700 block of Flying Tiger Drive in Canyon Country observed several men, loitering and drinking alcohol alongside a vehicle, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“While speaking with the males, deputies identified one of the males to be an outstanding kidnapping suspect,” Arriaga said.

When deputies attempted to detain the suspect, he allegedly fled, leading to a brief foot pursuit, according to Arriaga.

“As deputies reached to detain the male, a brief struggle ensued,” Arriaga said. “A short period later, deputies were able to detain the male without further incident.”

No additional information about the kidnapping incident was made available.

Jose Martinez, 27, from Canyon Country, was arrested on a warrant for kidnapping, as well as resisting an officer, Arriaga added.

Martinez was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Tuesday morning.

Three other men were cited and released on scene for drinking in public.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
