A man with several active warrants was arrested Sunday after he allegedly jumped over a fence onto fire department property and resisted officers in Valencia.
Around 5:10 p.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area units received a call of a gold sedan traveling at over 100 mph on the 5 Freeway near the SR-126, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.
“Units located the suspect vehicle abandoned on Commerce Center Drive north of SR-126,” Burgos-Lopez said. “As units searched the area, they received calls of a Hispanic male running towards The Old Road on Henry Mayo Drive. Fire department personnel called in about a suspect jumping over the fence at the fire station on Henry Mayo Drive and leaving some belongings within the station parking lot.”
Officers with the CHP responded to the area and located the male as he ran in the grass field south of the Fire Station, according to officials.
Officers detained the man who had lacerations to his hands as they investigated the incident.
During the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen.
Javier Flores Chavez was combative with officers, and fire department paramedics ultimately spitting on the officers. Chavez was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital for treatment.
Chavez had an active arrest warrant out of LAPD for vandalism and assault likely to produce great bodily injury, with a second warrant out of LAPD for attempt to escape.
Chavez was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, DUI of drugs, assault on a peace officer and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer.
