‘We Buy Ugly Houses’ Franchisee From Santa Clarita Pleads Guilty To Swindling Elderly Victims

A “We Buy Ugly Houses” franchisee from Santa Clarita has pled guilty to multiple counts of grand theft after allegedly swindling money out of two elderly victims, officials said.

Corey Evans, 41, pled guilty Wednesday for two felony counts of attempted grand theft by false pretenses, according to Ventura County District Attorney Gregory D. Totten.

The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the District Attorney’s Real Estate Fraud Unit, acting on a referral from Ventura County Adult Protective Services, according to the D.A’s office.

Evans is a co-owner of HomeVestors, an independently owned “We Buy Ugly Houses” franchise.

HomeVestors offers to purchase homes for cash in “as-is” condition, according to prosecutors,

The suspect allegedly provided false information to two separate elderly homeowners to induce them to sign contracts for HomeVestors to purchase their homes, investigators said.

Both victims, aged 72 and 76, are Camarillo residents. When each victim attempted to cancel their contract, HomeVestors recorded liens on their homes and threatened civil litigation, according to prosecutors.

Evans is set to be sentenced on Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. in courtroom 23 of the Ventura County Superior Court.

At the time of his sentencing hearing, Evans is expected to be ordered to pay restitution to the victims, remove all liens and cease all civil litigation against them, according to the D.A.’s office.

  1. please post that pos photo, others might not know his name but know his face.
PS anyone who steals deserves to have his/her hands chopped off.

    • His hands chopped off? Really, keyboard warrior? Taking a plea doesn’t always mean you’re guilty. You’re responding as if he was a child molestor. I’m willing to bet someone signed a contract, then realized the only way out of it was to cry elder abuse.
